IPL helping to provide 1 million Christmas Dinners as part of the Coronation Food ProjectPosted on November 22, 2023
It has been confirmed today that Asda is supporting the Coronation Food Project in partnership with FareShare, and will be donating the equivalent of 1 million Christmas dinners to charities and other good causes during the festive season. And IPL Forza & Kober are playing our part.
Inspired by The King’s work with tackling food waste and educating younger generations about food supply and production, The Coronation Food Project will mark his Majesty’s 75th birthday and seeks to bridge the gap between food waste and food need across the UK.
IPL’s role in this project is working alongside Asda and FareShare to redirect our surplus ingredients and products directly from our supply chain, which will then go towards the Christmas dinner. The Christmas dinner consists of a portion of vegetables, potatoes and meat, and meets FareShare’s 420g meal portion size and nutritionally balanced requirements. We have started to donate this week and will continue until 18th December.
Andy Cockshaw, Director – Technical, said: “As part of the Asda family, we are proud to be supporting the Coronation Food Project. IPL have been working together with FareShare since 2011 to tackle hunger and fight food waste, and this project sees us building on this partnership.
“This project directly aligns to our ‘Responsible & Sustainable’ strategic pillar, which includes ensuring that any surplus food that is still fit to eat is diverted to those in our communities who cannot afford it. Since we began our partnership with FareShare, we have donated well over 2 million meals to those in need.
“We will continue to work with our UK growers to encourage them to redistribute surplus products, and encourage our IPL Forza & Kober colleagues to volunteer at FareShare depots across the UK.”
